Insta-Art: ART SMART’s Instagram-inspired Art Hunt through the Art Institute of Chicago
Join ART SMART for a special Insta-Art event: an Instagram-based art hunt and tour through the Art Institute of Chicago on November 4 from 11am – 1pm. This tour through the AIC provides a mini art history overview; it looks at ten key topics that help us make sense of the history of art. You might consider questions such as: How have Greek Classical ideas influenced art through the ages and how do they continue to frame our understanding of art in general today? How did the Impressionists permanently change the art market by striking out on their own? What happened to realistic paintings in modern art? This engaging tour will provide those “aha” moments when it comes to understanding art history. Each object you find will be accompanied by witty bits of information that contextualize the art work and provide clues for where to find the next piece.
The ticketed public tour at each venue is divided into two parts: the hunt and the tour. After checking in with the event’s art historian guide at the museum you will break up into small groups, each of which will start their hunt at a different object or work of art. For the hunt portion of the event, you’ll interact with your tour guide through the Instagram platform by liking the images of your favorite objects and commenting with thoughts or questions. At the end of the hunt, your art historian guide will gather everyone together for a more in-depth tour of the group’s favorite objects, as well as the ones people were most curious about.
You will need access to an Instagram account to participate in the hunt, so if you don’t have your own, either bring along a friend who has one or let us help you create one ahead of time. Since the Instagram account showing the photos is private, you’ll need to follow the event account before the tour. Your confirmation email will provide our meeting location and further directions.

The combined hunt and tour will last two hours. Appropriate for adults and children ages 7 and up.
Insta-Art Hunt Tours are $20 per adult, $10 per child plus any museum-required admission.

Private tours for 1 – 4 people in your group booked online* start at $225 per hour (a 5% discount over tours booked via email or phone). All tours have a two-hour minimum. Additional people and/or additional time have an additional fee. Museum admission needs to be added for each person. This is added during your booking. We will get your tickets ahead of time for you. So you can skip the lines!
* For those who need a bit more service via email and phone, our pricing begins at $225 per hour for 1 – 4 people. Larger groups are $50 per adult, $25 per child.
