We will comb relevant dealers and auctions, and based on your schedule, we will bring you to relevant NYC galleries or provide customized private presentations of options for consideration for objects outside New York.
As appropriate, we can augment your engagement by focused NYC museum visits, to give you an eye and a foundational understanding of what the art field values. We can help you understand the drivers of pricing, trends and art-historical themes, and the players influencing major decisions in the art market. We can assist in viewing auction houses and art fairs around the country, and selected studio visits. For those wanting to make acquisitions over time, we will help you craft your collection strategy.
We will provide you research and insight to frame your decision, support negotiation of prices and terms and coordinate the execution from payment through shipping, framing and installation of works.
What is an art advisor vs. an art consultant, art adviser or art buyer?
There are different terms for this type of service (we prefer art advisor). What is critical to understand is who is working for you as the purchaser, as opposed to working for a selling party.
We serve as your representative; we do not work on behalf of dealers or artists, so our advice is objective and independent. At each stage of the purchase process we will provide outstanding service that is attentive and responsive to your individual needs.
Principal/Art Advisor Judith Walsh
Art Smart founder Judith Walsh leads the Art Smart advisory services team. With her extensive knowledge and experience, Walsh has built the relationships that can connect you with the art world establishment. She navigates with art world with integrity and works with her client’s best interest in mind.
Prior to founding Art Smart, Walsh worked in NYC galleries, in art market analysis at Sotheby’s, and as a lecturing fellow for The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Walsh received her graduate degrees in Art History from Columbia University after her undergraduate degree in business administration. She has guided private art expeditions internationally and has over a decade of experience as an advisor to private collectors.
