There is an art to seeing what the artists laid out for us to behold. Rather than telling the history of art, this tour gives visitors the tools and skills they need to engage with art on both a visceral and theoretical level. What should we look for when seeing a new work of art for the first time? How do artists fool our eyes and control our reactions? Come and learn how to approach a work of art and gain the vocabulary in discussing masterpieces. We’ll focus primarily on the Western Art paintings and sculptures, particularly those in the European Art department. You will walk away with a greater capacity for visual analysis and aesthetic appreciation. This tour is ideal for visitors who enjoy exploring art on their own but are hoping to cultivate their ability to look at, appreciate, and think about images and objects.

Private tours for 1 – 4 people in your group booked online* start at $225 per hour (a 5% discount over tours booked via email or phone). All tours have a two-hour minimum. Additional people and/or additional time have an additional fee. Museum admission needs to be added for each person. This is added during your booking. We will get your tickets ahead of time for you.
