Since 2001, Art Smart has introduced thousands of clients to the vast art resources that New York City and other major cities have to offer. Our goal has always been to connect people with art in the most personalized, efficient, and delightful manner possible. We do so by delivering the best high-quality art tours and other art-related services in New York City and around the world. Leading newspapers and magazines, as well as concierge teams from elite hotels, recommend Art Smart as the finest provider of personalized guidance to art venues. “Everyone will have thorough lessons in the enchantment of art,” concludes The New York Times. A client who found Art Smart while looking for the best tour guide to museums and galleries in NYC puts it this way: “Art Smart gets the art world, and knows just how to make us feel like we’re part of it.”
The Art Smart tour style encourages conversation. We rarely lecture in the traditional sense. Our expert art guides—graduate-level art historians from elite university programs—are chosen for their passion, personality, and charm. They are always up to speed on the latest exhibitions, critical reviews, and historical research. And each one is carefully trained to provide the highest levels of service and to detect what approaches to art a client group will most enjoy.
Art Smart founder Judith Shupe Walsh developed this unique approach during her years lecturing and leading art tours for The Metropolitan Museum of Art and while earning her graduate degrees in art history from the renowned program at Columbia University. Her ideas went beyond the traditional museum tour, focusing instead on delivering more personal and engaging experiences across various museums and galleries, even across national borders. Judith Walsh’s international art history research studies have included important art and architectural monuments in France, Spain, and Italy, and she has conducted extensive reviews of European art museums. While at Columbia University, Walsh led select donor tour groups throughout Europe covering an array of art periods and places.
Walsh has lectured for The Cloisters Museum, taught art education at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and was a graduate teacher of art history for Barnard College. She also has worked as a business staff member at Sotheby’s art auction house. Among her many honors, Walsh was selected as a graduate lecturing fellow at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2000.
She continues to lead Art Smart and its team of art guides today.
